About the Project
Leading up to its fifth year celebration, Battle of Jollof was fighting perception: too exclusive, too much hoops, not enough Jollof, and a compromised user journey.
The Jollof wars aren’t as cute as they look online. The global debate emphasizes competition over connection: who did it first? Who does it better? Who is worthy of being in the conversation at all?
And ultimately, albeit inadvertently, fuels other divides across the continent.
With that understanding, we produced an experience that celebrated the diaspora through food, culture, and competition: chef battle for the best Jollof, food vendors and 1v1 representing different nations, Nigeria vs. Ghana primetime game, and music that spanned the continent.
